This is an interactive homework problem for introductory physics students involving a cart and a block connected by a string passing over an ideal pulley.  Given the mass of both objects and distance of motion, the student must determine the work done on the cart by the string.  Students choose whether to solve the problem using Newton's Second Law or the Work-Kinetic Energy Theorem.   A user-activated "help" sequence is provided for each step of the problem-solving, from conceptual analysis through quantitative calculation.  To promote critical thinking, immediate feedback is received for both correct and incorrect responses.  This item is part of a larger collection of interactive homework problems for introductory physics.
