This interactive diagram explores conservation of energy as users solve a problem involving a child on a playground slide. Users adjust the amounts of energy in side-by-side graphs to reflect the correct relative values of KE, GPE, and thermal energy from friction. Automated feedback of diagrams created by students allow these applets to be used as tutorials or in online homework. The activity is designed to guide physics learners in self-discovery of concepts related to energy conservation in mechanical processes. It is part of a larger collection of interactive resources sponsored by PADs.
