This workshop, presented by the Physics Teacher Education Coalition, focuses on the impact of mentoring and induction programs on teacher recruitment and retention. The focus of this presentation is for teachers to gain a deeper insight on how current teacher preparation practices encourage the teaching of 'school science' and impede the teaching of 'real science'. The model of teacher preparation as a 'learning to teach continuum' that can last a significant amount of time is presented.
